Sterlé Paris
Rare bracelet by Pierre Sterlé
Rare and sublime flexible bracelet with palm and rope mesh, held by a domed crescent which leaves hanging a fringed pompom of fine column mesh, which has some losses. The blade clasp has a safety figure eight.
Signed Sterlé Paris, work from the 1960s.
Pierre Sterlé (1905-1978) was famous for his innovative approach to jewelry design, embodying the design dynamics of the 1950s.
He worked for many of the major jewellery houses on the Place Vendôme, including Boucheron, Chaumet and Van Cleef & Arpels. His reputation was firmly established when he won the De Beers Diamond Award, a major achievement in the jewellery world, for three consecutive years in 1953, 1954 and 1955.
Sterlé's success as an artist during this period brought him recognition in France as well as internationally. He worked for many heads of state and royalty, including Queen Narriman of Egypt and Princess Soraya of Iran, and socialized with other avant-garde artisans in France, such as Jean Cocteau, Georges Braque, and Salvador Dalí.
Above all, it was Sterlé's invention of the "gold knitting technique" or "angel thread" that made him famous at the height of his career in the 1950s and 1960s, and our bracelet here is a perfect illustration of this.
A collector's item that we are very proud to offer you!
